MBIS Values Election
At Meritton British International School (MBIS), values are at the heart of learning. This academic year began with our MBIS Values Election, a school-wide initiative that empowers students to shape the community they are part of.
A Democratic Process in Action
Over the past few weeks, both Primary and Secondary students took part in a special Values Election. Each class nominated and presented the values they believed were most important to guide our learning, behaviour, and community spirit. Students then voted in a real-life election format, placing their choices in ballot boxes to make the experience authentic and memorable.
The Results
The following values received the highest number of votes across the school community:
- Happiness – 128 votes
- Respect – 124 votes
- Kindness – 118 votes
- Equality – 113 votes
- Creativity – 108 votes
- Perseverance – 101 votes
From these results, combined with the values voted by school staff, the first four focus values for Term One are:
- Cooperation
- Happiness
- Respect
- Kindness
Building Values-Based Education at MBIS
This election was more than just a vote. It was an opportunity for students to experience participatory democracy, one of the UK government’s five fundamental values for schools. By engaging in this process, students developed leadership, responsibility, and an appreciation for the importance of community voice.
At MBIS, our Values-based Education approach ensures that students not only achieve academic success but also grow into confident, caring, and principled individuals who contribute positively to society.
